Faithwalk Publishing
FaithWalk Publishing is the brainchild of Dirk Wierenga. He spent years as a successful marketing expert before writing his first book and then traveling to promote it. When it came time to settle down to real work again, he decided the marketing grind wasn't for him. He and a number of investors started FaithWalk, located in Grand Haven, Michigan, about 6 years ago. FaithWalk publishes a variety of fiction and nonfiction books, including my first book, The Making of a Christian Bestseller.
Christian Authors Network
We are revamping and reorganizing CAN right now. We're aiming for a leaner and meaner organization that focuses our efforts on reaching readers and retailers, as well as developing more resources for our members. The board, including myself as president, is working on creating a whole new CAN.
Sally Stuart compiles an amazing list of book publishers, magazines, contests and conferences that is indispensable for writers looking for markets. You can buy the book via her website, plus a lot of other resources are available as well. I interviewed Sally for “The Making of a Christian Bestseller.”
Fab Writer Friends
Tracy Groot is a charter member of The Writers Guild, a group of West Michigan writers who meet monthly to discuss issues pertinent to each of our writing lives, boss each other around, and intrude on one another's lives. We love each other!
Tracy is the 2007 winner of the Christy Award in historical fiction for her book Madman, published by Moody. It's a truly awesome book, and Tracy is a truly awesome writer and friend.
Lorilee Craker is the only one of The Writers Guild to be called by a tabloid newspaper reporter. She is writing a book with Lynne Speers, mother of Brittany Speers, who is all over the tabloids. Lorilee is author of nine books including the soon-to-be-released A is for Atticus, as well as the aforementioned celeb book. Lorilee is a freelance entertainment writer for The Grand Rapids Press. She's also a charter member of The Writers Guild.
Shelly Beach is nearly a charter member of The Writers Guild. She invited Tracy, Lorilee and me to her writer's conference (Cedar Falls Christian Writers Workshop) and we immediately bonded, a good thing seeing as she had recently moved to Grand Rapids. Shelly is author of Hallie's Heart (Kregel) and Precious Lord, Take My Hand (Discovery House) and has about four other books in the works.
Hallie’s Heart is a finalist for the 2008 Christy Award in the “lit” category, and Precious Lord is a finalist in the “gift and inspiration” category of the ECPA Book Awards. The Writers’ Guild is, of course, extremely proud and not the least surprised.
Baker Book House
For those of you who aren't already familiar with Baker Book House, they are a large Christian book dealer located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are part of the retail division of Baker Book House. They are a full service Christian Book Store with all of the most popular books and music for the general Christian shopper. What really sets Baker apart though is our large selection of serious books for the pastor and theological student. In addition to new books, they feature used books, and hurt books and remainders from Baker and other publishers as well.
